My Friend Just Got Out of Rehab and He Still Seems Sad. What Am I Going to Do?

Question by derek: My friend just got out of rehab and he still seems sad. What am I going to do?
Bobby just completed the entire drug treatment therapy in a drug rehabilitation center. The counselors and the doctors said that he did just fine. He was cooperative and participative in the activities and therapies. I was happy to hear the news and I was also excited to have my friend back. The thing is, when I first saw him after his exit from rehab, I noticed the sad look in his eyes. He still seems depressed and miserable that I’m scared that he will go back into his old ways and rely on his other best friend: marijuana. What am I supposed to do? I really want to help Bobby overcome his addiction.

Maybe the reason why he’s so miserable is because he had a blast inside rehab. I mean, it can happen. I’ve heard people talk about the wonderful things that they experienced while getting treatment. Maybe he misses all the friends he met there. Maybe he misses the therapy sessions and fun activities. Persuade him into pursuing a new hobby like sports, arts, literature or music. Invite him to play basketball or go swimming. Just think of things that might relax him a little bit. Get him busy so that he will not have the time to think about the things that makes him so miserable. I think you better try your best to cheer him up. Laughter is still the best medicine!
