Good morning Irwan,
I hope you had a great weekend. We had a Christmas tree decorating party on Saturday. We have been during this for over thirty (30) years. It helps put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
I am not a doctor, but I was a LICENSED hearing consultant for the state of California for sixteen (16) years before retiring. Your uncle has “Tinnitus”. Over forty (40) million people have some form of tinnitus. Therefore, because of the money involved there are many non-professions, misinformed people, WEBSITES, books, and quacks out there. SURGERY IS ONLY REQUIRED IN VERY VERY (ALMOST NEVER) FEW CASES.
Tinnitus is one of symptoms which usually results from other diseases or mishaps. Why would a patient be having surgery???
The worst part about tinnitus is a person cannot tell another person how loud the sounds are. In other words, how can you get into another person’s head? Tinnitus is a continuous sound or noise. The sounds or noises can be roaring, air escaping, hissing, frying, seashell sounds, and others.
Tinnitus can be very bad. I have heard of people committing suicide or going crazy. It is rumored that the Roman emperor Nero was driven crazy because of tinnitus.
We do know that tinnitus can come from high blood pressure, an allergy, antibiotics, aspirin, too much alcohol, caffeine (drinking coffee or tea), exposure to loud noises (jet planes, guns), Meniere’s disease, beginnings of hearing loss, and many others.
There is NO single known cure for tinnitus only treatments. In many cases we fit the patient with a hearing aid type device called a “Masker”. The masker is set at the same frequency as a patient’s sounds/noises thus masking. It is not a cure, but it does work in many cases. This device must be fitted by a state licensed medical person. Please read the website below. Again, No SURGERY is required.

Some treatments involve herbs and vitamins. Hopefully the website below can help your uncle understand what he is up against.

Irwan, I hope the above info and websites helped. I am sorry I did not have better news. Believe me; I have seen thousands of patients with tinnitus. He will have to live with it, until. After reading my answer and the above websites, I would advise your uncle to seek questions and examine his own life style. More exercise, less drinking of coffee, tea, sodas, check for high blood pressure, overweight, and others. He should also seek licensed medical advice.
I did have patients, in some cases, who told me taking the herb “Ginkgo Biloga” did help with tinnitus. You can purchase at the drug store in pill form. Please completely read website below.

I hope you and your family have a beautiful holiday. Peace, from Los Angeles.
